Man. Freedom. Society.

What does it mean to be free?

How far should man go to be true to himself ?

Freedom is our greatest treasure. It is the ability to choose our own destiny, preserve our dignity, follow our dreams, and stay true to ourselves, even when circumstances are dire. Many young women travel abroad in hopes of attaining happiness, love, and a better future, but reality is often something else entirely. Loneliness lies in ambush as we search for hope, hardship tries us as we seek success, and the chance at a new life can be earned only by fighting for our own fate.

Based on real events, at the turn of the millennium, this play retells the story of Ziyash and Qarlyğash, two women whose destinies are tangled up in circumstance, choice, hope, and despair.

This story is about women fighting for freedom in a place that desperately wants to take it away; about fighting for their life; about fighting for their right to choose; most importantly, about human dignity. After all, staying true to ourselves is the most important thing we can do.

Presented by “The Arts Stage” theatre with the Kazakh centre in the UK.
